Of course after spending so much time down in Destin, it's hard to get exited about laying on the beach and swimming up here in the colder waters...however there are things about the New England coast line that are so beautiful, and you just can't find spots like them anywhere else.
These rocky shores we have in some areas are perfect for crab hunting! We played in quite a few tide pools! ;) Lots of crabs were discovered...along with plenty of snails, lot's of clams and an eel! One of the girls claimed to find a baby octopus, however there is no evidence to support that.
Hurricane Arthur was out to sea...however he came close enough to cause some crazy surf...the surfers were out in full force catching some of the big waves he caused.... there certainly were some crazy waves out there! We sat on the wall and watched them for quite a while.
You see a lot of BIG houses on the coast down south...but they aren't as pretty (in my opinion) as the ones you find here. They are a lot newer down there, and while that might be fun, these homes along this rocky shore are old and charming. Yes there are a few, newer, more modern homes... most though, are old and just so picturesque.... like this one.... I mean seriously, how perfectly quaint it this...looking out over the ocean....
And of course, up around the bend you have this....pretty still, just in another aspect ;)
It was a lil on the chilly side (well....I guess we adapted to the south, because there were some crazies out there in swim suits....while we had on our sweatshirts and even jeans! haha!) However, even had I not lived in the south for a bit I would have found it a lil too chilly for sunbathing.... but that's just me. It was however the perfect day for doing exactly what I love to do on the New England coast. Just walking, crab hunting of course...and enjoying quality time hanging on the rocks and walls with my family, finished with a good seafood dinner.
We continued up into Maine and decided to take a pitstop in Kittery at the Trading post. It's fun to check out all they have going on there, and of course, when in Maine....at least one person in the family must pose with a moose....
We ended up at the Camp, where we spent 2 nights enjoying the peacefulness (which included the annual fire works competition across the lake)...They go all out these guys... man they spend some money! But us... well, we enjoyed our free show while we roasted marshmallows by our camp fire and made s'mores. :) It was fun watching the kids get excited to be back there again, since we missed last summer...and it was fun to watch Bryn "re-discover" the place, she didnt remember it since she was only 2 the last time she went, she was all excited about everything! It was a good weekend.

Looks pretty! Haven't been to the camp in years! Use to go every 4th when the kids were little. Hoping to get to the coast for a day soon. Ahhhh. So glorious! ~ Kim
ReplyDeleteThe pictures remind me of when Renee, Ryan and Lauren were little and we would search for crabs and tide pools. Such a simple thing but they enjoyed it so much. Kathy
