Sept 28th

So a few posts back I talked about how little Missa will be having her procedure done but we didn't have a date yet. Well we do now, she is scheduled for Sept. 28th @ Boston Children's Hospital. http://childrenshospital.org/ Bright and early since she is young and they schedule procedures out from youngest to oldest. I won't have details like a specific time until the day before when I talk to the nurse about all our prep. details. However I was told to be prepared to be first or second that morning. Since we have a little over an hour drive into the city, we decided it's a better idea to stay somewhere close to the hospital the night before. Since B won't be able to eat anything, the last thing I want to do is drive into the city at 5:30 in the morning with a starving toddler. So we will let her sleep as long as possible that morning thanks to my good friend , who helped us out with a room for the night! Grammy and Grampa will be having a sleep over with the 3 big kids and bringing the girls back and forth to school for us on Fri. (Thanks Mom & Dad!)
The procedure itself is a day thing and as long as all goes well, she will be released later on Fri. It is actually a biopsy of her small intestine. The "proper" name... "Upper Endoscopy". We are hoping to have some more definite results from this biopsy, to help us determine whether she does in fact have Celiac Disease. Not everyone who is being diagnosed with Celiac has to do this. However in order to really know for sure since Celiac is such a tricky disease, and in order to stay on top of other issues that could arise from this disease, and also because she is so young.. this is the route her G.I. Specialist thought was best for her now.
Of course there are risks with anything, but the biggest factor is really dealing with the anesthesia and her heart condition. Thats where my nerves go crazy. I have faith though that God is in full control here, she is one strong, spunky girl & he built her that way for these very reasons. He will be with her keeping her safe and guiding the doctors through it all.
In the meantime we have not switched any diets in our house at this point. There is no cure for Celiac disease and it does not go away, you keep it under control and keep yourself healthy, by staying on a gluten free diet. Of course it won't be possible to switch only B.... so our family will have a big change also if we do in fact have to switch her.
So please, as friends of ours, keep B and us in your thoughts and prayers as we go through this procedure on the 28th. We would greatly appreciate that!
We have a few fun things planned in the mean time, Im sure i'll update before... but I will definitely update after her procedure. Thanks everyone!
